What I Can Do

Tell Your Story in Our New Pro-Marriage Video

A message from Dan Kirk, President of Yes on Gay Marriage

Wow, what a week we’ve had so far! Victories in Iowa and Vermont bring our community closer to achieving marriage equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people across the nation. The Yes on Gay Marriage website has been officially launched, and the new National Organization for Marriage (NOM) has launched to roll back the victories of the past week.

If you haven’t seen it yet, the National Organization for Marriage have a very slick, very professional video filled with paid actors. It’s an attempt to ‘soft-sell’ their anti-gay message. If you look at the section of their website where they give talking points, they make it very clear that the ‘harsh’ message is failing, and they need to try a new approach to win over people besides their committed base.

We would like to see a response from our community to this new message, and unlike the folks at NOM, we believe that hearing the real voices of real people is more important than hearing from paid actors. Our strongest advocates, the ones that they fear the most, are the real people like you who are directly impacted by the denial of our right to marry.

Here is how you can make this message work. Send us a video, no more than one minute long, and tell the world why marriage is important to you and your family. We're looking for voices from every part of our community - LGBT, straight allies, couples, singles. We will showcase the videos on our website, Facebook group and YouTube channel, and combine some of the best into a response to the NOM commercial.

It is our voice that they fear, the voice of real people affected by this issue, and together we can make the difference in this struggle.
